C.S. Osborne & Co.: A Legacy of Excellence
Founded in 1826, C.S. Osborne & Co. has a long history of providing high-quality tools for harness makers and saddlers. The company was founded by Charles Samuel Osborne and his brother Henry, who saw an opportunity in Newark’s tanneries and the growing demand for horse-related crafts. Over the years, leadership of the company passed to Charles’s son, Jasper, and later to Walter Dodd Osborne, who continued to uphold the company’s legacy of excellence.
By the 1880s, C.S. Osborne & Co. had become the largest harness-tool manufacturer in the world. The company relocated to Harrison in 1906, and in 1958, it acquired H.F. Osborne and Wm. Johnson, Inc., marking a period of significant growth. As we approach our 200th anniversary in 2026, C.S. Osborne & Co. remains a symbol of excellence and innovation in tool manufacturing.
